Thompson Pass Viewpoint

Thompson Pass Viewpoint sits at 2,644 feet along the Richardson Highway, facing south with terrain dropping 575 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. Three peaks are visible from this point: Halibut Head to the south-southeast at 4.7 miles (5,347 ft), Meteorite Mountain to the southwest at 12.9 miles (6,497 ft), and Mount Jimmy Doolittle to the southeast at 19.8 miles (7,461 ft). Valdez lies 20.8 miles to the west. Daylight hours shift considerably across the year here: the June solstice brings sunrise at 04:06 and sunset at 23:25, while the December solstice reduces this to a 09:57 sunrise and 15:26 sunset, with the equinoxes falling near the 12-hour midpoint. Keystone Canyon precedes this overlook on the Richardson Highway route, and Worthington Glacier Viewpoint follows it.
