The engine gets
built on the road.

For 6 to 12 months the founders take Byway onto the exact roads the engine is built to read — across the country, through every season, a rolling HQ, R&D lab, and studio in one coach. We don’t simulate the drive. We live in it.

Signals field-tested
Against real terrain

You can’t verify America from a desk.

Byway’s promise is verified places, Zero hallucinations, locals weighted first. That promise is a data problem — and data has an address. The surest, most defensible way to seed a verified-places engine is to send the people who built it down the actual roads: stop, confirm, photograph, log. The road year isn’t a trip. It’s how the moat gets dug.

Five jobs, one motion.

Dogfood

A living lab.

We run Byway every day — in rain, dirt, dead zones, and the 4WD-only switchbacks an office never sees. Every reroute, every wrong pin, every signal miss gets caught in the field and fixed that week. A year of the hardest QA money can’t buy.

Data

The ground-truth flywheel.

Every stop becomes a verified node in the community file — real coordinates, real hours, locals’ picks, photos. Locals weighted first. The founders hand-seed the dataset competitors would need years and a crowd to build. The moat, dug one campsite at a time.

Growth

Distribution at near-zero CAC.

Campgrounds are dense with exactly one kind of person: someone who road-trips. We onboard them face-to-face and turn every RV neighbor into a referral — the first 1,000 founding members, acquired in person.

Brand

The content engine.

A wrapped coach is a rolling studio. A verified-routes series, a channel, a year of cinematic road footage that doubles as marketing and proof. Every road has a story. This is us filming it.

Product–market fit

Customer development, at the source.

Every campfire is a user interview. We find features in the wild — what road-trippers actually want, where the app breaks their day, what they’d pay for — then ship it before we’ve left the state. Continuous discovery from the passenger seat, not a survey panel.

Each mile feeds the next.

Most startups buy growth and data on separate invoices. On the road, one motion produces both — and the marginal cost is a tank of diesel.

A loop of the country, by season.

Sequenced to weather and scenic density — chasing the light, not the calendar. Illustrative; the engine re-plans the year the same way it re-plans a day.

01
Launch · SE & Gulf

Shake down the rig — and the workflow.

Out of Miami: first campground activations, the daily verify-and-log loop dialed in, the Blue Ridge and Natchez Trace corridors logged while the weather's kind.

02
Desert & Southwest

Where the signal drops.

Big Bend, canyon country, the bones of Route 66. The hardest test of offline regions and dead-zone routing — and the most dramatic footage of the year.

03
Pacific & Mountain West

Peak scenic density.

The PCH, the Sierra, the national-park belt. Highest verified-stop yield, highest content output, highest concentration of road-trippers to onboard.

04
North & Heartland · home

Cold-weather testing, then consolidate.

Northern Rockies, the Great Lakes, the long roads back. Stress the rerouting in snow, then clean and lock the dataset before beta opens.

Directional goals for the road year — what we’re aiming for, not current traction.

All-in.

We’re not waiting for a launch date to meet the people Byway is for. The road year is how we start the business — building the engine on real terrain and earning the first users in person, mile by mile. The rolling HQ is ours. We believe this gets built on the road, not at a desk — so that’s where we’ll be.

We’ll send dispatches from the road.

The wheels turn either way — but it’s a better story with you in the passenger seat. Join the waitlist and ride along from the first mile.

Thanks — you're on the list. We'll be in touch.
