Joseph Nicollet’s journal notes "Where the Stone Man is made" (Íƞyaƞ Wic̣aṡta Káġapi) on the Couteau highland just southwest of Lake Wilson. Nicollet passed through and named Buffalo Ridge, making it a likely location of this observation.
