Fjaðrárgljúfur lies to the north-northwest at 1.9 mi, with Mögárfoss, a waterfall, further along the same direction at 2.4 mi and 636 ft. Rauðárfoss appears to the northeast at 3.3 mi. To the west-northwest, Skálarborg rises to 1,276 ft at a distance of 3.7 mi. A cluster of peaks—Myrkrastofa, Tungskjól, Gluggasker, Hvíluklettur, and Sönghóll—stands to the east-northeast between 4.0 and 4.6 mi, each in the 338–349 ft range. Daylight hours vary considerably through the year at this site: sunrise and sunset run from 07:15 to 19:27 at the March equinox, stretch to a 02:50 sunrise and 23:40 sunset at the June solstice, return to near-equal hours at the September equinox, and shorten to an 11:01 sunrise and 15:22 sunset at the December solstice. Foss á Síðu is the previous lookout along the route, and Álftaversgígar follows as the next stop.
