Smørkollen

Smørkollen sits at 3,789 feet along the Valdresflye byway, with the terrain facing south (180°) and dropping 465 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. From this point, Mugnebrynadn is visible to the southwest at 5.3 miles, reaching 4,423 feet. Slettefjellet, a peak to the southwest, lies 6.0 miles out at 4,609 feet, while Javnberget rises to the southeast at 6.9 miles and 3,579 feet. The steep drop-off in front of the overlook means the southward view is largely unobstructed by nearby terrain. Daylight hours vary considerably by season here: around the June solstice, sunrise comes at 03:45 and sunset at 23:09, giving nearly 19 and a half hours of light. At the December solstice, the sun rises at 09:41 and sets at 15:06, a span of roughly five and a half hours. The equinoxes fall closer to a 12-hour split, with March sunrise at 06:28 and sunset at 18:38, and September sunrise at 07:09 and sunset at 19:28. Visitors planning a stop should account for these shifts, as the amount of usable daylight at this elevation changes substantially across the year.
