Trollstigen

Trollstigen sits at 2,284 ft on the Geiranger–Trollstigen byway, facing 60° toward the northeast quadrant. The terrain drops 847 ft within 600 m of the overlook, indicating steep ground falling away from the viewpoint. Three peaks are visible: Vestre Stigbotthornet to the east-southeast at 0.9 mi (5,134 ft), Storgrovfjellet to the northeast at 1.6 mi (5,305 ft), and Trollklørn to the north-northeast at 2.6 mi (5,496 ft), all rising above the overlook's own elevation. The facing direction points roughly toward sunrise, 30° off square, which places early morning light along the sightline toward the peaks. Sunrise times shift across the year from 03:32 at the June solstice to 09:59 at the December solstice, affecting when this alignment is most pronounced. Dalsnibba precedes this stop on the byway, and Trollstigen og Stigfossen follows it.
