Utsikten sits on the Senja byway at 332 ft elevation, facing 30°, with the land dropping 332 ft within 600 m of the overlook. Bergsøyan landskapsvernområde lies to the north at 1.5 mi. Further out, a series of peaks rise across the northeast to east arc: Sommardalhaugen (4.4 mi, 1,063 ft), Husfjellet (4.8 mi, 1,994 ft), Nonshaugen (4.8 mi, 1,471 ft), Steinsethøgda viewpoint (5.0 mi, 1,438 ft), Purka (5.5 mi, 1,902 ft), Skinnarmen (5.7 mi, 1,666 ft), Fuglan (5.9 mi, 2,153 ft), Trælen (6.0 mi, 1,631 ft), Luttinden (6.3 mi, 2,382 ft), and Finnkona (6.5 mi, 2,392 ft).

Daylight varies sharply through the year. Around the March equinox the sun rises at 05:53 and sets at 18:07, and near the September equinox sunrise is 06:31 with sunset at 18:59. The June solstice brings midnight sun, while the December solstice falls within the polar night. The next stop along the route is the Bergsbotn viewpoint.
