Wawona Campground

The Wawona Campground is located along the South Fork Merced River close to historic Wawona. At an elevation of 4,000 feet (1,219 m), the campground is located in the southern end of the park, 27 miles and approximately 45 minutes from Yosemite Valley. The majestic Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is just a short drive away and the Yosemite History Center is in nearby Wawona where you can see some of the park’s oldest structures. Wawona offers a visitor center, hotel, and a market.

Wawona is open year-round for tents, RVs (up to 35 ft), and trailers (up to 35 ft.). Reservations are required from mid-April through late October/November (exact dates vary). In 2026, reservations will be required from April 15 until October 26 for the B and C loops (then they close) and April 15 until November 29 for the A Loop. For the remainder of the year, the A Loop remains open on a first-come, first-served basis. The group campsite is open year-round (reservations required).

Reservations are required in 2026 from April 15 until October 26 for the B and C Loop (then they close) and from April 15 until November 29 for the A Loop. During the rest of the year, Loop A is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Loops B and C are closed in winter. The group site is available year-round by reservation only. Campground reservations are available in blocks of one month at a time, up to five months in advance, on the 15th of each month at 7 am Pacific time. Be aware that nearly all campground reservations in Yosemite for the months of May through September and for some other weekends are filled the first day they become available, usually within seconds or minutes after 7 am Pacific time.

Wood and charcoal fires are permitted all year and at any time.
Each campsite contains a fire ring , picnic table , a food locker , and is near a bathroom with drinking water and flushing toilets . In the Wawona Campground food lockers measure 35"(D)x43"(W)x28"(H). The group site has five food lockers. The Wawona Campground is located along the Wawona Road. From the South Entrance drive 6 miles north on the Wawona Road (continuation of Highway 41); approximately 1 mile north of Wawona, the campground is located on the left. From Yosemite Valley, drive south 27 miles (approximately 45 minutes) and just before you reach Wawona itself, the campground will be on the right.
Yosemite National Park covers nearly 1,200 square miles (3,100 square km) in the Sierra Nevada, with elevations ranging from about 2,000 feet (600 m) to 13,000 feet (4,000 m). Yosemite receives 95% of its precipitation between October and May (and over 75% between November and March). Most of Yosemite is blanketed in snow from about November through May. (Wawona can be rainy or snowy in any given winter storm.)
Pets: Permitted (except in group site); must be on a leash at all times. Fires: Wood and charcoal fires are permitted all year. People per site: A maximum of six people (including children) are allowed per campsite, except for the group site, which requires 13 to 30 people. Vehicles per site: A maximum of two vehicles are allowed per campsite. All vehicles must be parked on a parking pad. Trailers don't count against the vehicle limit as long as they fit on the parking pad. Additional parking may be available near the campground for no additional charge.
