Iron Creek (Horse Camp)
The Ideal Setting for Horseback Riders Located 13 miles outside Custer, South Dakota, Iron Creek (Horse Camp) offers a secluded setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation in the Hell Canyon Ranger District within the Black Hills National Forest. The camp is adjacent to Iron Creek and surrounded by ponderosa pine forests. Horse enthusiasts will find this site ideal for exploring nearby Black Elk Wilderness Area and related trail systems. The Horse Camp offers nine sites with corrals, picnic tables, and fire pits. Two toilets are available, along with a gravity feed water line that flows into two horse troughs for watering horses. Using funds generated through campground (user) fees, the Forest and its concessionaire – Forest Recreation Management (FRM) – enhanced each campsite a few years ago. New amenities improved the campground from a visual perspective, as well as to provide better comfort for campers and their stock. Please Respect that this campground is designed and constructed with features specifically for stock camper use and the care of their animals, vehicles, and gear. If you are camping without stock, the Forest encourages you to select an alternate site or visit other campgrounds online for additional options.
