Step out the back door of Fall River Guard Station and you’ll be at the spring-fed headwaters of the Fall River , a prime location for fly fishing. Feeling a bit more adventurous? Bend area attractions, such as the High Desert Museum and the Newberry National Volcanic Monument , are just minutes away. Less adventurous? Enjoy a good book while relaxing in the cabin’s screened front porch. Or stretch your legs along the Fall River Trail . This rustic, single story cabin is nestled in a lodgepole pine forest at the picturesque headwaters of Fall River. The cozy 600 square foot cabin has two bedrooms, a kitchen, and living room. Sleeping accommodations include one full bed, a twin bed, and a two person futon in the living room. The heater, refrigerator, lights and stove are all run off propane. The kitchen is furnished with basic cookware and cutlery. A picnic table is provided for outdoor dining. Visitors need to bring their own bedding, towels, cleaning supplies, flash light and first aid kit for emergencies. There is no potable water at this site, and visitors must bring plenty of water for drinking, cooking and washing. A vault toilet is located on the premises. • Availability: Fall River Guard Station is available for rent November 30 through October 31. • Price and Capacity: $90 per night per group, with a maximum of five occupants. There is easy access and a level area for RV and tent camping on site. Fees are used directly for the maintenance and preservation of the guard station. • Reservations: Reservations must be made three days in advance. The maximum length stay is seven consecutive nights. Phone 1-877-444-6777 or visit www.recreation.gov History The Fall River Guard Station was built in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Cascadia style of the Pacific Northwest Region. The cabin was originally used as an outpost to fight forest fires and is eligible for listing on the National Historic Register.
