Star Meadow Guard Station Cabin

This 2 room historic Forest Service cabin is located 27 miles from Whitefish Montana accessed by a paved road. The cabin is heated by 4 cadet electric wall heaters, two portable oil heaters and an electric fireplace. The kitchen comes complete with microwave, fridge and oven, dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. The cabin sleeps 6 comfortably with 4 single beds and one futon couch that folds into a double bed. An additional bunkhouse was renovated in 2010 and has two bunk beds and sleeps 4. The restroom is a wood paneled vault toilet 20 yards from the cabin. The old style well with a hand pump is also located approximately 30 yards from the cabin. Water available at Star Meadow Cabin from approximately April 1st through November 1st. An outdoor fire pit and picnic table are on site, as well as a patio area with a table with an umbrella and chairs. Dogs are allowed and a kennel is on site.There is ample room for family style yard games. Stock animals are allowed, but there is no corral or running water on site. Renters with stock or additional camp units should contact the district prior to their stay for access to the lower meadow. Guests must bring their own bedding and food, among other necessities. Guests will also need to bring water if the reservation falls outside of the range of dates when water is available nearby. There is no cell phone service at the cabin. During winter storms or snowfall accumulation, the paved access road may not be plowed, so be prepared for winter driving and road emergencies. This is a non-smoking facility. Please be respectful to adjacent neighbors.
