Hager Mountain Lookout Recreation Rental

Located one hour south of Silver Lake, Oregon, Hager Mountain Lookout sits at an elevation of 7,195 feet, boasting panoramic views all the way to Mount Hood and Mount Shasta on clear days. It is still staffed for fire detection annually during the fire season and is open for guests to stay in the winter and early spring. The site is available to rent from November 15 to May 15, offering secluded accommodations for guests seeking a quite winter vacation. The remainder of the year it is staffed by Forest Service personnel. This rugged, cold-weather destination awaits hardy outdoor adventurers as it is only accessible by foot, snowshoes or cross-country skis. Skiing or snowshoeing can take from a couple of hours to half a day, depending on weather conditions and one’s physical endurance, as it’s about a four mile hike. Foot travel into remote locations in the winter requires experience and advance preparation. Hager Mountain Lookout is a 14’ x 14’ room that can accommodate up to four people. It is furnished with a bed (plus mattress) and three folding cots, table and chairs, propane stove, heater and refrigerator. Limited cookware is available. Outside guests will find a picnic table and vault toilet. There is no water on-site, so guests must bring sufficient water and supplies for drinking, cooking and washing. Guests can take advantage of outstanding winter recreation opportunities including snowshoeing, hiking, cross-country skiing, and stargazing. The remote mountain top location makes it conducive to observing wildlife during the day and viewing dazzling constellations in the starry night sky. • Availability: Drake Peak Lookout is available for rent November 15 through May 15. • Price and Capacit y: $40 per night, per group, with a maximum of four occupants (a maximum of two adults is recommended).
