McKeever Cabin
Looking for a quiet, rustic place to get away for a few nights? McKeever Cabin may be just what you`re looking for! Located approximately 14 miles south of Munising, the cabin is situated on a small knoll surrounded by young evergreens and hardwoods and overlooking McKeever Lake. Nearby recreation opportunities abound, including hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, skiing and more! The cabin was constructed in 1991 through a partnership between the Forest Service and Hiawatha Log Homes of Munising, as well as through considerable volunteer labor. McKeever Lake is a 132 acre lake located in the heart of the Hiawatha National Forest approximately 14 miles south of Munising in Schoolcraft County. The lake is 2 miles east of Forest Highway (FH) 2173. The cabin is situated on a small knoll surrounded by young evergreens and hardwood trees, and it is adjacent to McKeever Hills cross-country ski trail and Bruno`s Run hiking trail. Other recreation opportunities in the area include lake fishing, biking, canoeing, swimming and hunting. Developed campgrounds exist at nearby Pete`s Lake and Widewaters Recreation Areas. The Big Island Lake Wilderness, which provides only non-motorized opportunities, is a short distance away as well. McKeever Lake was stocked with northern muskie in 1990. It also supports a good population of northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and bluegill. Be aware, this facility is not cleaned between user visits.
