Little Brooklyn Guard Station
Small cabin provides shelter during all seasons. Access to trails (backcountry) in summer and skiing/snowmobile riding in winter. Built in 1931 to house Forest Service employees, the cabin is now available for rent to the general public on a year-round basis. From mid June until early November the cabin is accessible by road (weather permitting). During the winter, the Snowy Range Scenic By-way is closed three miles east of the cabin. When the road is closed, the cabin is only accessible by ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile. At 10,340 feet above sea level the "rustic" three room cabin measures 28 feet by 22 feet and can accommodate up to seven people. There are two sets of bunk beds, one single bed and a double hide-a-bed couch. The cabin is heated by a wood stove , equipped with propane lights and a propane cook stove. The Forest Service supplies the propane and firewood. Cooking and eating utensils are also provided. Potable (drinking) water is available from a pump located outside of the cabin. There is no running water inside the cabin. A vault type toilet is located outside of the cabin. Saddle or pack stock belonging to the renter may be kept in the meadow north of the Guard Station at a rate of $1.00/night/head of livestock. Only certified weed-free hay or processed feed may be brought into the National Forest. Pets are allowed but they must be cleaned up after and be kept under control at all times.
