Horn Head

Horn Head sits on the Wild Atlantic Way on a peninsula in northwest County Donegal, close to Dunfanaghy, forming part of Sheephaven Bay. The overlook stands at 679 ft, facing 300°, with terrain dropping 613 ft within 600 m of the viewpoint. From here Magheroarty Beach is visible to the west-southwest at 8.4 mi, along with the peak of An Mhaoil Mhór in the same direction at 9.1 mi. To the west-northwest, Mearnaid rises at 11.1 mi, with Tobar Mháire Alec at 11.7 mi and Derek Hill's Hut at 11.8 mi also in that line of sight. The facing direction looks toward the sunset, offset 30° from square to the light. On the December solstice the sun sets at 16:04, while on the June solstice it sets at 22:17, giving a wide seasonal range in evening light at this orientation. The Polduce lies along the route before this stop, with Slieve League next along the byway.
