Private Viewing: Arnolds Place

Arnolds Place sits at 169 ft along The East Cape Coast byway, facing 270°, directly toward the sunset. Land drops 176 ft within 600 m of the overlook, giving an open view to the west. Four peaks are visible: Motutohetohe to the west-northwest at 5.9 mi (1,526 ft), Hovells Lookout to the west-southwest at 6.0 mi (1,552 ft), Motutere to the west-northwest at 6.7 mi (1,745 ft), and Porua to the southwest at 7.0 mi (1,657 ft). Because the overlook faces due west with no angular offset, sunset lines up squarely with the view throughout the year. Sunset times shift with the seasons, from 17:09 at the June solstice to 20:36 at the December solstice, with the equinox sunsets falling at 19:31 in March and 18:14 in September.
