Rocher du Coq de Bruyères

Rocher du Coq de Bruyères sits at 3,213 feet along the Route des Crêtes in the Vosges, facing due east. The terrain drops 898 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, giving an open view across the valley toward a line of peaks. Grand Brézouard rises east-southeast at 1.9 miles (4,032 ft), with Petit Brézouard nearby to the east at 2.1 miles (3,947 ft). Farther along the same eastern arc are Rehberg at 2.7 miles (3,743 ft) and Hirzberg at 3.7 miles (3,740 ft), extending the ridgeline toward the east-northeast. La Lièpvrette river is visible to the northeast at 4.4 miles, well below the overlook at 1,286 feet. Because the overlook faces directly toward sunrise, it catches morning light across this range, with sunrise times shifting from 05:32 at the June solstice to 08:20 at the December solstice. The access road to this overlook is closed seasonally from November through April. The previous lookout along this stretch of the byway is Rocher du Hirtzenstein.
