Spitzenfelsen sits at 3,904 feet along the Route des Crêtes in the Vosges, facing due south. The land falls away sharply, dropping 983 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The view opens onto a cluster of peaks and a saddle to the south: Col du Schaeferthal at 2.0 miles, Le Petit Hohneck at the same distance, and Hohneck to the south-southwest, also 2.0 miles out, reaching 4,472 feet. Further along the same arc, Gaschneykopf appears to the south-southeast at 2.2 miles, with Taennlekopf and Sattelkopf continuing southeast at 2.3 and 2.7 miles respectively, the latter at 2,927 feet. Elevations among the visible peaks range from Sattelkopf's 2,927 feet up to Hohneck's 4,472 feet, giving the panorama a layered arrangement of ridgelines. Daylight hours shift considerably through the year here: sunrise comes as early as 05:33 at the June solstice and as late as 08:20 in December, with sunset ranging from 16:41 in winter to 21:36 in summer.
