Vøringsfossen

This overlook sits at 2,327 feet along the Hardangervidda byway, facing west-southwest toward the setting sun. The terrain drops 782 feet within 600 meters, giving a steep descent from the pullout. A Vøringsfossen viewpoint lies 0.3 miles to the west-southwest at 2,131 feet, and the peak Storabrot is visible 5.6 miles further in the same direction, rising to 4,218 feet. Vøringsfossen itself is a waterfall located near Norwegian National Road 7, in the Måbødalen valley in Eidfjord Municipality, with a total drop of 182 meters and a major drop of 163 meters. Because the view faces almost due west, sunset light reaches the overlook directly; sunset times range from 15:22 at the December solstice to 23:05 at the June solstice, with sunrise ranging from 04:02 in June to 09:38 in December. The previous lookout on this route is also named Vøringsfossen, and the next stop ahead is listed simply as Scenic overlook.
