Vøringsfossen

Vøringsfossen sits along the Hardangervidda byway at 2,028 feet, at the top of the Måbødalen valley in Eidfjord Municipality. The waterfall itself has a total drop of 182 metres (597 ft), with a major drop of 163 metres (535 ft). The overlook faces due west, aligned directly toward the sunset point on the horizon. From this position the terrain drops 556 feet within 600 meters, matching the steep character of the valley below. Storabrot, a peak at 4,218 feet, is visible to the west-southwest at a distance of 5.2 miles. Vøringsfossen lies near Norwegian National Road 7, the route connecting Oslo and Bergen, and is passed on the descent from the Hardangervidda plateau toward Hardangerfjord. Daylight hours here vary widely across the year: sunrise comes at 04:02 and sunset at 23:05 around the June solstice, while the December solstice brings sunrise at 09:38 and sunset at 15:22.
