Farther off to the north-northwest are Shehy Mountain and Purple Mountain, both about 3.3 miles away at 2,420 and 2,643 feet, with Purple Mountain NE Top slightly beyond at 3.5 miles and 2,431 feet. Drishana rises to the west-northwest at 3.5 miles and 1,373 feet. In June, sunrise comes early at 5:19 and sunset stretches to 22:03, while December offers a shorter window, from 8:45 to 16:29. This stop falls between Ladies View, the previous lookout, and Meeting of the Waters, the next one along the route.

Black Valley church This church used to serve the whole of the Black Valley, an area of sparse population, with people walking up to 7 miles each way to attend. In recent years it has been closed and boarded up and a newer facility built in the valley itself.

On the Kerry Way Close to the N71 road at Galway's Bridge, the Kerry Way strikes off towards the Upper Lake, out of sight beyond the first ridge. This is an area of tussocky grass but with a clear path.
