Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center

This year-round visitor center is located one mile from the Southwest Entrance. The visitor center offers an information desk, exhibit hall, auditorium, amphitheater (summer), park store, dining area, patio (summer), and a gift shop and cafe (summer). Free Wi-Fi is available inside.

From Red Bluff: Follow Hwy 36 East for 51 miles to the junction of Hwy 89. Follow Hwy 89 north 6 miles to the southwest entrance station and the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center.

This one-story, wooden building is nestled on the edge of a mountain valley lined by conifer forests and jagged mountain peaks. Most visitors enter through a large triangular overhang at the front entrance, which opens into a small 24-hour vestibule. A family, mens', and womens' restroom are located to the left. Two sets of double doors continue straight into the main building. Rangers provide information at an information desk at the right and notify visitors of the start of the 20-minute park film in the auditorium accessed through the doors to the left of the desk. In the center of the main room is a 3-D relief map of the park with buttons that indicate the four types of volcanoes in the park. To the immediate left of the map is a small, L-shaped park store. On the far side of the map is a doorway that opens to the back patio. The remainder of the rectangular building extends to the left and right of the map. The left wing of the building includes a seating indoor, fireplace, gift shop, cafe, and an exit to a service parking area. The right wing of the building includes a circular exhibit hall and an emergency exit in the far corner. The exhibit area includes an inner circle with volcanology interactive exhibits and an outer circle with text-based natural and cultural history exhibits. Within the outer circle are two smaller free-standing, cylindrical displays featuring interactive exhibits designed for young visitors.
