Dickey Ridge Visitor Center (mile 4.6) is located near Front Royal, Virginia, in the northern part of the Park. It's the ideal place for visitors entering through the Front Royal Entrance Station to find restrooms, information, a bookstore, publications, and maps. Right across Skyline Drive from the visitor center you will find the popular Fox Hollow Trail trailhead.

Dickey Ridge Visitor Center is open May 1 - November 1, 2026. Park Rangers will staff the visitor center during operating hours to answer questions and provide tips for your visit.

From Washington, D.C. metro area, travel west on Interstate 66 to Front Royal, Virginia (62 miles). Take the exit onto Route 340 South and follow signs for Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive, which will lead you to the Front Royal Entrance Station . Once on Skyline Drive, make your way south to mile marker 4.6; you will find Dickey Ridge Visitor Center on your right.

Dickey Ridge Visitor Center is a long single story, rectangular, brown wooden building. The parking lot is to the south of the building. Restrooms are found next to the parking area. A tall antenna is next to the building by the southern end. There is a semi-circular paved stone terrace directly in front of the building with two large planter boxes located by the main glass double doors. A sign that says "Entrance" hangs from the roof by the main doors. There roof extends out from the building to create a veranda alongside the length of the building. It is supported by many wooden pillars. The building also has many large floor to ceiling windows. You enter the building into a large central room where you will find the ranger information desk directly ahead as well as other bulletin boards with information. Turning right and heading through a doorway will take you to Shenandoah National Park Association's gift shop. Turning left from the central room and heading through a doorway will take you to the interpretive exhibit, including a large bas relief map of Shenandoah National Park lying flat on a table. Continuing further through another doorway in this direction will take you to the auditorium where movies and Ranger talks are presented. Exiting the building will bring you back to the terrace and a great view looking westward.
