Lava Point Campground is open as weather allows, typically from May through September. Situated at 7890 feet above sea level, the campground can be reached via the Kolob Terrace Road, 25 miles (45 minutes) north of the Virgin. It takes approximately 80 minutes to drive to the campground from the South Entrance of Zion Canyon. Six (6) primitive campsites are available for reservation. The campground has pit toilets and trash cans, but no running water. Vehicles longer than 19 feet are not permitted.

Lava Point Campground and its trails are not wheelchair accessible.
Due to the natural landscape and weather conditions, Lava Point Campground does not have accessible campsites. Accessible camping can be found at Watchman Campground, located by the Zion Canyon Visitor Center.
Seasonal fire restrictions are common - check with a ranger or camp host for current fire restrictions. Fires are only permitted in the furnished grates at each site. Only common fuel sources (such as firewood or charcoal) may be used. No burning of trash or manufactured/synthetic materials is allowed. Fires should never be left unattended and must be fully extinguished before leaving. Wood gathering is prohibited within the park. Purchase wood in nearby communities. Gas or liquid-fueled stoves and lanterns are allowed, but they should only be lit on bare ground away from vegetation. Lanterns may not be hung from trees. To reach Lava Point Campground, start by driving north from the intersection of UT-9 and Kolob Terrace Road. Drive on Kolob Terrace Road for roughly 20 miles. Then, take a right onto Lava Point Road. Follow Lava Point Road for 1.4 miles, then turn left at the sign for Lava Point Campground. The campground can be found next to the sign. A map can be obtained from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center during regular hours.
Zion is known for a wide range of weather conditions. Temperatures vary with changes in elevation and day/night temperatures may differ by over 30°F. This means it is usually much cooler at Lava Point than in other parts of Zion National Park.
Lava Point campground cannot be included in the itinerary of any Wilderness backpacking trips. If you are planning a backpacking traverse hike (going from Kolob Canyons south and across Zion Canyon) you need to make reservations for each night in designated Wilderness campsites and camp areas. Vehicles longer than 19 feet are not permitted on the road to the campground. Other key regulations are listed below. Check-in is typically available any time after 12:00 pm. - Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. - Generators may only run between the hours of 8 am - 10 am and 6 pm - 8 pm. - Hammocks, slacklines, or any other items may not be attached to trees or park structures. - All food and waste must be properly stored or disposed of. - Tents and vehicles must not be on vegetation. - No fires are permitted when fire restrictions are in place.
