Because the facing is angled 30° off square toward sunrise, morning light crosses the view directly; sunrise ranges from 05:24 at the June solstice to 07:38 at the December solstice, with sunset between 16:31 in December and 20:53 in June. The site includes a short interpretive trail and functions as an information point for the byway. Bend is 7.9 miles to the northeast, Redmond 23.8 miles north-northeast, and Prineville 36.7 miles northeast. The next lookout along the route is Vista Butte Sno-Park.
