Ås

Ås sits at 1,199 feet on the Aurlandsfjellet byway, facing 270 degrees with terrain dropping 1,083 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The view opens west toward Klokkarfossen, a waterfall 2.2 miles out at 977 feet, and Flugandefossen, another waterfall 2.4 miles away at 643 feet. Onstadberget rises to the south-southwest at 1.9 miles, while Lialandet, a stretch of coast at only 55 feet elevation, sits southwest at 2.5 miles. Farther out, Marakberget and Storeberget lie to the west-southwest, the latter reaching 3,110 feet at 3.1 miles. To the northwest, Kvamsbergi, Vetle Nedberget, and Handklefjellet are visible, with Handklefjellet the most distant of the group at 3.9 miles and 3,289 feet. Because the overlook faces directly toward sunset, the light aligns with the view without offset. Sunset times vary through the year, from 15:17 at the December solstice to 23:11 at the June solstice, with equinox sunsets around 18:45 and 19:34. The next lookout along the byway is Prest.
