Barrier-Free Lookout

Barrier-Free Lookout sits at 2,403 feet on the Gila-Pinal Scenic Road, facing 135 degrees with the land dropping 32 feet over the first 600 meters. Boojum Cove lies east at 0.3 mi (2,570 ft), the Upland Sonoran Desert Natural Area is east-northeast at 0.4 mi (2,526 ft), and Apache Leap rises to the east at 5.0 mi (4,783 ft). The overlook faces toward sunrise, roughly 45 degrees off square with that direction, which puts morning light across the view; sunrise runs from about 05:17 at the June solstice to 07:25 at the December solstice. San Tan Valley is 25.5 miles west-southwest, Queen Creek is 27.5 miles west, and Gilbert is 36.7 miles west. Weaver's Needle Lookout precedes this stop on the byway, and Observation Lookout follows it.
