Baycrest Overlook

Baycrest Overlook sits at 777 ft along the Sterling Highway, facing 210 degrees, with land dropping 715 ft within 600 m of the viewpoint. The view extends south-southwest to Outside Beach and Inside Beach along the coast, at roughly 14.2 and 14.8 miles, both under 120 ft elevation. Farther south, Graduation Peak rises to 3,248 ft at 16.8 miles, while Mt Bede and Mount Bede appear south-southwest at about 26 miles, reaching 2,438 ft and 3,153 ft respectively. Homer lies 3.0 miles east-southeast, Anchor Point is 11.4 miles northwest, and Seldovia is 15.2 miles south-southwest. Day length varies with the season: the June solstice offers sunrise at 04:47 and sunset at 23:31, while the December solstice sees a much shorter span, from 10:06 to 16:05. At the equinoxes, daylight runs from about 08:00 to 20:00 in March and 07:52 to 20:08 in September. The steep terrain drop near the overlook suggests an open sightline toward the coast and the more distant peaks to the south and southwest.
