Bellevue Overlook

Bellevue Overlook sits at 824 feet along the Grant Wood Scenic Byway, facing due north, with the land dropping 235 feet within 600 meters of the pull-off. The view north takes in a cluster of parks and features at lower elevation, including Fireman's Memorial Garden at 0.3 miles, Sarge O'Neil Park at 0.4 miles, and Felderman Park to the west-northwest at 0.6 miles. Lock & Dam 12 Recreation Area lies north at 0.7 miles, with Mason's Park, Ernst Memorial Park, and Cole Park farther out to the north-northwest and northwest between 0.8 and 0.9 miles. North Bluff, a peak rising to 852 feet, is visible at 1.1 miles to the north-northwest. Additional features—Ice Harvest Park, David Ensign Memorial Ballpark, and J.J.'s Memorial Park—extend the sightline out to 1.8 miles, with Spruce Creek Park visible at 3.7 miles due north. Dubuque lies 21.4 miles to the northwest, and Clinton is 30.0 miles south-southeast. On the December solstice, sunrise is at 07:28 and sunset at 16:33; on the June solstice, sunrise comes at 05:26 and sunset at 20:42. The next lookout along the byway is Inspiration Point.
