Big Ridge Overlook

Big Ridge Overlook sits at 3,820 feet on the Blue Ridge Parkway, facing 120 degrees toward the southeast. The terrain drops 598 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, giving an open line of sight across the surrounding ridgeline. From the overlook, Coffee Pot Mountain is visible to the east-southeast at 2.1 miles (3,143 ft), with Kramers Vista farther east at 2.9 miles (3,253 ft) and Rich Gap Mountain to the south at 3.0 miles (4,039 ft). Bad Fork Valley Overlook, at milepost 399.7, is visible to the east at 3.2 miles (3,425 ft). The facing direction is oriented toward sunrise, roughly 30 degrees off square with it, making the overlook suited to early daylight viewing depending on the season; sunrise ranges from about 06:17 at the June solstice to 07:37 at the December solstice. Asheville lies 13.4 miles to the northeast, while Taylors and Greer are both over 40 miles away to the south-southeast and southeast. The overlook falls between View Hominy Valley and View Stony Bald along the route.
