Sugarloaf Peak lies to the northwest at 5.2 miles, and Buckeye Peak is visible to the southwest at 6.9 miles. Because the overlook faces the sunset direction, evening light falls directly across this line of peaks; sunset comes at 20:36 at the June solstice and 16:45 at the December solstice. The nearest towns are Edwards, 27.5 miles northwest, Aspen, 38.5 miles west-southwest, and Eagle, 38.7 miles west-northwest. The previous stop on the byway is Waterfall Overlook.
