Close up of schist of Setters Formation, with what are probably tourmaline or hornblende crystals. Bottom of frame is about 0.5 m wide. McKeldin Area, Patapso Valley State Park, Carroll County, Maryland.

A hike along the banks of the Patapsco River produced this view of backlit golden leaves framing an area of rapids along the river. This is just past the McKeldin Rapids in the McKeldin Area of Patapsco Valley State Park in Maryland. I'm no arborist, but I believe this is a beech tree.

A pleasant fall hike along the Patapsco River, the McKeldin Rapids cascade down into a pool of deep pool of water just behind me. There was some nice fall foliage (although I was expecting more color) along the river on this October afternoon.
