Crown point

Crown Point sits at mile 5 of the Historic Columbia River byway, at an elevation of 759 feet, with land dropping 746 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The view faces 60°, toward the northeast, and looks across several waterfalls and viewpoints along the gorge: Latourell Falls to the east at 1.3 miles, Shepperd's Dell Falls to the east-northeast at 2.3 miles, and Bridal Veil Falls at 3.3 miles in the same direction. Also visible are Belle Center Falls, Cape Horn Falls, Ozone Wall, Farside, Windblown Fir Viewpoint, and Cigar Rock View, all to the northeast between roughly 2 and 3.2 miles out, along with the peaks of Mount Pleasant and Biddle Butte to the north-northeast. Because the overlook faces 30° off square from sunrise, morning light comes in fairly directly; sunrise runs from about 05:21 at the June solstice to 07:47 at the December solstice. Gresham is 9.6 miles to the west-southwest, Portland 20.9 miles west, and Vancouver 21.7 miles west-northwest. The previous stop on the byway is Portland Women's Forum State Scenic Viewpoint, and the next is Lemmons Viewpoint.
