Curtis Creek Overlook (348.8)

Curtis Creek Overlook sits at 348.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, at an elevation of 4,460 feet. The land drops 700 feet within 600 meters, and the view faces 150 degrees, toward the southeast. Four peaks are visible: Buckeye Knob at 3,202 feet, 2.0 miles southeast; Sams Knob at 3,295 feet, also 2.0 miles to the east-southeast; Narrows Knob at 3,402 feet, 2.5 miles east-southeast; and Mackey Mountain at 3,963 feet, 3.6 miles east-southeast. Asheville lies 21.5 miles west-southwest, Morganton is 29.1 miles east, and Boone is 44.6 miles northeast. Laurel Knob Overlook is the previous stop along the parkway, with Hewat Overlook next. Given the southeast-facing orientation, sunrise comes later than sunset relative to the direction of view; on the June solstice, sunrise is at 06:14 and sunset at 20:49, while on the December solstice sunrise is at 07:36 and sunset at 17:20.
