Flag Rock Overlook sits at 3,196 feet along the Coal Heritage Trail - VA, facing 330 degrees toward the north-northwest. The terrain drops 684 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, giving an open view across the valley below. Legion Park lies west-northwest at 0.5 miles, with Veterans Park to the north at 1.0 mile and Norton City Park north-northwest at the same distance, all situated at lower elevations than the overlook itself.
