Two waterfalls are visible to the southwest: Geitafoss at 1.4 miles and 325 feet elevation, and Goðafoss itself at 1.7 miles and 351 feet elevation. To the west, Ljósavatn lies 4.6 miles out at 605 feet, with the peak Ljósavatnsfjall rising to 2,527 feet at 5.2 miles in the west-southwest direction. Farther northwest, Grænihnjúkur reaches 3,339 feet at a distance of 10.5 miles. The waterfall itself drops 12 meters over a 30-meter width, formed by the river Skjálfandafljót, and a 1.8-mile hiking trail loops around the waterfall area. The Ring Road meets the Sprengisandur highland road near this point. The facing direction looks squarely toward sunset. Goðafoss is a waterfall in northern Iceland. It is located along the country's main ring road at the junction with the Sprengisandur highland road, about 45 minutes from Akureyri. The water of the river Skjálfandafljót falls from a height of 12 metres over a width of 30 metres. A 1.8-mile hiking trail loops around the waterfall area.
