Gour sits at 379 ft along the Wild Atlantic Way, facing 120°, with the land dropping 284 ft within 600 m of the overlook. The view takes in a series of peaks at varying distances: Disert to the east-southeast at 1.5 mi (619 ft), Knockanallig to the east at 4.6 mi (842 ft), and Holly Hill to the east-northeast at 6.8 mi (732 ft). Further out, Lough Akeen Lake View lies to the southeast at 8.4 mi (516 ft) and Ballyroon Mountain at 8.8 mi (725 ft), also southeast. Hungry Hill, at 2,206 ft, is visible to the east-northeast at 9.0 mi. The overlook's orientation is angled 30° off square toward sunrise. Sunrise times vary through the year, from 05:23 at the June solstice to 08:45 at the December solstice, with corresponding sunsets at 22:02 and 16:33. Equinox sunrises fall at 06:44 in March and 07:26 in September, with sunsets at 18:53 and 19:41 respectively. The combination of the facing direction and the steep drop in elevation nearby makes this a spot where the surrounding terrain, from nearby ridgelines to the more distant Hungry Hill, remains within sight across a range of distances.
