From this vantage, Waukon Junction Wildlife Area lies 2.8 miles to the north at 618 feet, followed by Noble's Island Access 3.6 miles north at 621 feet. Farther out, Bluffview Park appears 6.7 miles north at 641 feet, with Mississippi River Access and Harpers Ferry City Park both to the north-northeast at 6.8 and 6.9 miles, sitting at 647 and 654 feet respectively. Decorah is the closest named town, 33.5 miles to the west-northwest, while Platteville and Oelwein lie farther southeast and southwest. On the June solstice, sunrise occurs at 05:26 and sunset at 20:49, giving the longest daylight window of the year at this stop; the December solstice narrows this to a sunrise of 07:34 and sunset of 16:33. This overlook falls between Fire Point and Bench along the byway sequence.
