Haystack Rock

Haystack Rock sits at 1,153 feet along the Red River Gorge Scenic Byway, facing 330 degrees, with the land dropping 436 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. Double Arch is visible to the west-northwest at 0.3 miles (1,198 ft), Courthouse Rock stands to the north at 0.4 miles (1,225 ft), and Asylum Wall is visible farther west-northwest at 1.4 miles (1,280 ft). The nearest towns are Winchester, 29.3 miles west-northwest; Richmond, 34.2 miles west; and Berea, 38.5 miles west-southwest. Sunrise and sunset shift across the year: on the June solstice the sun rises at 06:14 and sets at 21:01, while on the December solstice sunrise is at 07:47 and sunset at 17:20, with the equinoxes falling between these times.
