Irish Creek Valley Overlook

Irish Creek Valley Overlook sits at 2,651 feet along the Blue Ridge Parkway, facing 300 degrees, with the land dropping 684 feet within 600 meters of the pullout. The view spans a mix of nearby and distant terrain: Coates Mountain rises to the west-northwest at 1.2 miles, and Whites Peak stands west-southwest at 1.5 miles, both close enough to dominate the immediate foreground. Farther out, Prospect Hills, Paxton Hill, Henry Hill, Canaan Hill, Mount Atlas, and Poorhouse Mountain extend the sightline northwest and west-northwest between 3.6 and 8.2 miles out, with McKeathen Park and Lovers Leap visible to the west at 6.6 and 8.3 miles. Because the overlook faces toward the sunset, roughly 30 degrees off square, the light crosses the ridgeline at an angle through the day rather than straight on. Sunset falls at 20:43 during the June solstice and 17:02 in December, giving a wide seasonal range for evening visits. Lynchburg lies 26.3 miles to the south-southeast, and Staunton is 27.8 miles north-northeast; Roanoke is farther off at 50.7 miles southwest. Boston Knob Overlook precedes this stop on the parkway, and White's Gap Overlook follows it.
