Kaw Point

Kaw Point sits along the Spirit of Kansas City byway at 729 feet elevation, on the Fairfax District shore where the Kansas River meets the Missouri River. The point marks the eastern end of the Kansas River and the spot where the Missouri turns east toward Missouri and, eventually, the Mississippi. Kaw Point Park, which contains the overlook, is administered by the National Park Service as a stop along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. The terrain drops 12 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, and the view faces 135°, toward the southeast, an orientation angled 45 degrees off the sunrise direction. Several features are visible across the river to the southeast and south-southeast, including Ermine Case Junior Park at 1.2 miles, West Terrace Park at 1.3 miles, Breakout KC and SoHo Loft Rooftop Garden at 1.4 miles, Mulkey Square Park at 1.5 miles, and Jarboe Park at 1.6 miles, all sitting at higher elevations between 838 and 952 feet. Kansas City lies 0.9 miles to the west and 2.0 miles to the east-southeast, with Overland Park about 10.6 miles to the south-southwest.
