This overlook sits at 7,309 feet along the Trail of the Ancients, facing 120°, with the land dropping 92 feet within 600 meters of the pullout. The view extends toward several named features to the east and south: Encerrito, a peak at 7,043 feet, lies 4.2 miles east-southeast, while Los Pilares, at 6,904 feet, is visible 9.6 miles in the same general direction. To the southeast, La Ventana Arch Viewpoint stands 9.3 miles out at 7,338 feet, with La Ventana Arch itself just beyond at 9.4 miles and 7,437 feet. McCarty's Crater, a peak reaching 7,358 feet, appears 11.1 miles to the south. The facing direction looks generally toward sunrise, angled 30 degrees off square, with sunrise times ranging from 05:59 at the June solstice to 07:17 at the December solstice. Grants and Milan lie 15.4 and 15.5 miles to the north-northeast respectively, and Laguna is 35.3 miles east. The site is part of a sequence of lookouts along the byway, following the Lava Caves entry-forbidden site and preceding Lehmer Lookout. Entry into the lava caves themselves is not permitted from this location.
