Farther out, Sunk Hill rises to the east-southeast at 6.9 miles (249 feet), and McAlpine Hill appears due east at 8.6 miles (211 feet). Natchitoches lies 20.3 miles to the north-northwest, while Alexandria and Pineville are both roughly 34.5 to 34.9 miles to the east-southeast. The recreation area includes a stone gazebo, picnic tables, barbeque pits, flush restrooms, drinking water, and a group pavilion. A 1.5 mile interpretive loop trail runs through the site, passing under large pines. The overlook provides views of the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness Area from the gazebo structure.
