Water features include Oxidation Pond to the north-northwest (1,044 ft, 4.1 mi), Lake Johnson to the northwest (1,309 ft, 5.0 mi), and Downeys Dam, also northwest, at 1,437 feet and 8.0 miles. Jacks Point and Refuge Point, both capes, lie to the west-southwest and west respectively, at lower elevations near 1,000 to 1,200 feet. Ferry Hill, a peak at 2,277 feet, is north-northwest at 5.2 miles. Because the overlook faces directly toward sunset, sunset times vary by season, from 17:10 at the June solstice to 21:32 at the December solstice. The route continues from Balclutha Bridge to Halfway Remarkables.
