Loowit Viewpoint

Loowit Viewpoint sits at 3,971 feet along the byway between Castle Rock and Johnston Ridge, facing 150 degrees with terrain dropping 609 feet within 600 meters of the site. Johnston Ridge rises to the east at 0.6 miles, and Studebaker Ridge is visible to the south at 2.8 miles. Several waterfalls appear to the southeast and south-southeast, including Lower Loowit Falls, Middle Loowit Falls, Loowit Falls, Lower Step Falls, and Step Falls, ranging from 3.7 to 4.3 miles out with elevations between roughly 4,100 and 5,000 feet. Windy Ridge and the Windy Ridge Viewpoint and Interpretive Site lie to the east-southeast near 4.7 to 5.2 miles, and Harmony Lake Viewpoint is also visible in that direction. The site has parking but no facilities or water, and Boundary Trail #1 connects from this location. Access by car is currently affected by a State Route 504 closure from a landslide; the viewpoint can be reached by hiking the Hummocks Trail to Boundary Trail toward Johnston Ridge. The overlook is closed from November through early May. Longview is 35.1 miles west-southwest, Battle Ground is 37.3 miles south-southwest, and Centralia is 46.4 miles northwest.
