Monolopy Overlook Platform

OpenStreetMap
Looking east from Monolopy Overlook Platform. Terrain and imagery at true elevation.

Monolopy Overlook Platform sits at 449 feet along the Great River Road, facing due east across terrain that drops 115 feet within 600 meters of the platform. The view extends across a series of low ridges and knolls, including Bee OPress Ridge, Sand Blow Ridge, Shaw Ridge, and Cow Knoll Ridge, all within three miles to the east-southeast and southeast, with Horsehead Knoll to the east-northeast at a similar distance. Mingo National Wildlife Refuge lies 1.8 miles to the southeast, and Duck Creek Conservation Area and its associated State Wildlife Management Area are visible farther out to the east-northeast and northeast, six to eight miles distant. Rock Knob, at 502 feet, stands nine miles to the east-southeast, and Snake Bluff appears at 405 feet, 8.2 miles to the northeast. Because the platform faces directly toward sunrise, the eastern sky is unobstructed by any angled orientation. Poplar Bluff is 20.5 miles to the south-southwest, with Sikeston and Jackson farther east and northeast. This overlook follows Mississippi River Overlook and precedes Bird Viewing Blind along the route.
