Mt Thielson Viewpoint

Mt Thielson Viewpoint sits at 5,229 feet on the Rogue-Umpqua byway, at mile 71 of 159. The terrain drops 26 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. Several peaks and one viewpoint are visible from the site: Hemlock Butte to the west (2.7 mi, 6,253 ft), Diamond Lake Viewpoint to the north (3.7 mi, 5,488 ft), Gaywas Peak to the south (4.3 mi, 6,794 ft), Twin Knobs to the west-southwest (4.4 mi, 6,168 ft), Mount Bailey to the west-northwest (4.5 mi, 8,358 ft), Rodley Butte to the northwest (5.5 mi, 6,839 ft), and Sherwood Butte to the west (5.7 mi, 6,888 ft). Crescent lies 32.3 miles to the northeast, and Shady Cove is 49.2 miles to the southwest. Mazama Viewpoint precedes this stop along the byway, with White Point Lookout next. Sunrise and sunset vary through the year: on the June solstice the sun rises at 05:30 and sets at 20:52, while on the December solstice it rises at 07:38 and sets at 16:37. Equinox daylight hours fall between these extremes, with sunrise near 07:00 and sunset near 19:15 in both March and September.
