Mt Tom

Mt Tom, on the Crossroad of Vermont Byway, sits at 1,338 feet and faces 120°, with the land dropping 636 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The view takes in Mount Peg to the east-southeast at 1.4 miles (1,073 ft), Kent Hill to the east-southeast at 3.1 miles (1,578 ft), and both Hartland Hill and Garvin Hill to the southeast at 4.0 miles, rising to 1,503 feet and 1,811 feet respectively. The facing direction points toward sunrise, offset 30 degrees from square, so morning light comes in fairly directly across the overlook; sunrise runs from about 05:09 at the June solstice to 07:21 at the December solstice. Lebanon lies 14.0 miles to the east, Claremont 20.2 miles south-southeast, and Rutland 22.2 miles west. The Lincoln Covered Bridge is the previous lookout on the byway before reaching this point.
