This overlook sits at 1,223 feet along the Red River Gorge Scenic Byway, facing 60 degrees toward the east-northeast. The terrain drops 439 feet within 600 meters of the site. Two features lie in view: Balanced Rock, 0.3 miles east-northeast at 1,221 feet, and Henson Cave Arch, 0.7 miles east-northeast at 1,059 feet. Because the facing is 30 degrees off square with sunrise, the view aligns with the direction of first light; sunrise falls at 06:14 at the June solstice, 07:39 at the March equinox, 07:23 at the September equinox, and 07:47 at the December solstice, with sunset ranging from 21:01 in June to 17:20 in December. The overlook is reached after Battleship Rock on the byway. Winchester is 30.8 miles west-northwest, Richmond is 33.3 miles west, and Berea is 36.3 miles west-southwest. The site takes its name from the park's natural sandstone bridge, a 78-foot arch standing 65 feet high, formed by weathering over millions of years, located within Natural Bridge State Resort Park along the Middle Fork of the Red River in Powell and Wolfe counties, adjacent to the Red River Gorge geologic area and surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest.

Natural Bridge State Resort Park is a public recreation area located along the Middle Fork of the Red River, two miles south of the unincorporated community of Slade, in Powell and Wolfe counties, Kentucky, United States. The state park lies adjacent to the Red River Gorge geologic area and is surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest. Its namesake natural bridge is the centerpiece of the park. The natural sandstone arch spans 78 feet (24 m) and is 65 feet (20 m) high. The natural process of weathering formed the arch over millions of years. Some of the most famous sites in the park are the arch itself, "Lover's Leap", and "Fat Man's Squeeze".
