North View Overlook sits at 10,412 feet on Scenic Byway 143, at mile 18 of the 50-mile Patchwork Parkway, just inside the north entrance of Cedar Breaks National Monument. The view faces south, with the land dropping 783 feet within 600 meters. Features visible from the overlook include Alpine Pond to the south-southeast, Cedar Breaks peak to the south-southwest, and Chessmen Ridge Overlook to the south. Farther out, Point Supreme, Point Supreme Overlook, and the Cedar Breaks National Monument Visitor Center lie to the south at about 3 miles, alongside Spectra Point, The Bartizan, and Ramparts Viewpoint to the south-southwest. The overlook includes a large parking lot and interpretive waysides and is accessible by private vehicle. It is open year-round, though conditions vary by season. UDOT clears Highway 143 during daylight hours in winter, but the overlook's parking lot is not plowed; winter access is by snowshoe or cross-country ski. Cedar City is the nearest town, 12.5 miles to the west.

(1 in a multiple picture album) When folks check out the National Parks in Utah (there are 5!), they often neglect Cedar Breaks National Monument. Oh what they miss. I believe the Breaks have more color to them then Bryce. See the last picture for an explanation of the name of this place.

North View Overlook · National Park Service

The northern-most scenic overlook at the national monument, North View is located just inside the north entrance along Highway 143. The overlook features a large parking lot and interpretive waysides. The overlook is accessible by private vehicles. The area is open year-round, but access does vary throughout the year depending upon weather. Utah Department of Transportation clears Highway 143 during daylight hours in the winter season, though the overlook parking lot is not cleared. During the winter, the overlook can be accessed by snowshoes or cross-country skies.
